The 2026 exhibition season at the Museum Liaunig

With its diverse cultural programme, the Museum Liaunig has established itself in recent years as a lively place of encounter and cultural dialogue in southern Carinthia. Located away from urban centres, the museum attracts visitors from all over the world every year from spring to autumn.

After the winter break, the museum will reopen its doors on 26 April 2026 and start the new season with a focus on sculpture and objects: The main exhibition "(Not) a concept. Sculptures from the Liaunig Collection" in which curator Alexandra Schantl examines developments in sculpture since 1945.

Two special exhibitions complement the programme: the first is designed by the artist couple Elisabeth Trenkwalder (1961) and Elmar Trenkwalder (1959). From August onwards, the extensive artistic oeuvre of Hellmut Bruch will be on display in a retrospective marking his 90th birthday.

Further highlights include the works of sculptor Robert Tauber (1936) in the sculpture depot and the photographs of Walter Schramm (1941) in the museum's graphic arts wing.

There will also be a change in the historical collection presentations: after stops in Germany and Spain, the African collection "Akan Gold" is returning and will be shown in a new arrangement. Accompanying the publication of the third part of the collection catalogue, portrait miniatures that have not yet been shown will be presented.

The sculpture park is continuing to grow – with works by Tony Cragg (1949) and Bernhard Luginbühl (1929–2011).
